We continuously write to you about nomadic families working hard to bring about a substantial change in their otherwise tumoultous lives, the desires they are chasing is like everyone else’s - a decent house, education the kids and settling down to live in peace. Who does not chase such dreams?? Each one of us desire the same and strive hard to live our dreams. VSSM’s efforts to create opportunities for the nomadic families to earn their livelihood is enabling these communities to chase their dreams and to a great extent realise them aswell. The families are earning well, saving for building their homes and to a great extent are learning to manage their money and lives.
The team of VSSM plays a very important role here, they are the facilitators, advisors, moral boosters, hard task masters….. all of these rolled in one. They are the friends, philosophers and guides to these families. As most of the VSSM team members are from nomadic communities they are catalysts of change.
The trailing story is a perfect example of the relation the team member and community member share…..
Mafabhai Devipujak stays in a shanty by the guest house in Diyodar. He has four sons two of who helped him in earning livelihood and the other two are still in the school. Mafabhai is a community leader, is an active and zealous community member, always prepared to help and be part of the group. Mafabhai and his sons worked as loaders in the main bazaar of Diyodar, but after their marriage his two elder sons decided to part ways and earn for themselves. It was difficult for Mafabhai to do such laborious job all by himself. Finding some other option was all he was left with.
Mafabhai shared his dilemma with VSSM’s Naran, requesting help get him a hand cart allotted from the government during the Garib Kalyan Mela… this however was not possible; since only those featuring in the BPL list benefit from Garib Kalyan since Mafabhai did not feature in the BPL list he could not get any benefit under this scheme. Naran however suggested he could get support from VSSM in form of a loan. Mafabhai will have to repay back the amount in form of regular EMIs. Mafabhai found this option appealing too. VSSM processed a loan of Rs. 6000 for Mafabhai. He began selling vegetables to which Naran suggested to start selling only one or tow seasonal vegetables. So Mafabhai switched to that. During the season of potato he would buy potatoes at Rs. 3 from wholesale market and retail them at Rs. 10. The produce on his hand cart would keep changing according to the season. Mafabhai earn Rs. 200 to 250 daily and is able to regularly pay off the EMI too.
So far VSSM has provided loan to 21individuals in Diyodar, the issue they now face is finding Naran to deposit their EMI. Naran is always on the move because of the workload and it is difficult to get hold of him so how do this individuals pay their EMI was a question?? To this they the,selves found a solution. The money is given to Dineshbhai Raval who has a fruit lorry by the Diyodar bust stand and Naran collects from his to deposit in the bank. It is overwhelming to see all of these individuals belonging to different nomadic communities working collectively to achieve larger goal…..
Meanwhile, Mafabhai has began saving for education his younger sons and building a small house. Chasing his dream…….
લોનનો માસિક હપ્તો આપવા વિચરતા પરિવારો મહિનાના પહેલાં અઠવાડિયે નારણને શોધે છે...
દેવીપુજક મફાભાઈ દિયોદરમાં રેસ્ટહાઉસ પાસે છાપરું કરીને રહે.. પરિવારમાં ચાર દીકરા. બે દીકરાના લગ્ન થયા અને એમનો સંસાર જુદો મંડાયો. એ પહેલાં બે દીકરા ને મફાભાઈ ગંજબજારમાં ગાડીમાંથી સામાન ઉતારવાનું કામ કરતાં. પણ લગ્ન થયા પછી બંને દીકરાઓ એમને અનુકુળ પડે એ કામોમાં જોડાયા. સામાન ઉતારવાનું કામ એકલા મફાભાઈ કરી શકે નહિ.. શું કરવું એ પ્રશ્ન એમને મૂંઝવતો હતો. દિયોદરમાં રહેતાં દેવીપૂજક પરિવારોના એ આગેવાન. vssmના દરેક કામમાં ખુબ મદદ કરે. vssmના કાર્યકર નારણ સાથે વિવિધ સરકારી કચેરીમાં પણ જાય.
નારણને મફાભાઈએ પોતાની મૂંઝવણ કહી અને સરકાર દ્વારા ગરીબ ક્લ્યાણ મેળામાં આપવામાં આવતી હાથલારી અપાવવા વિનંતી કરી. એમણે કહ્યું, ‘હાથલારી હોય તો કંઈને કંઈ કામ શોધી લેવાશે. તમે એ મળે એ માટે મદદ કરો.’ સરકાર દ્વારા ગરીબ કલ્યાણ મેળામાં જેમને સહાય મળે છે એ પરિવારો BPL યાદીમાં હોય છે જયારે મફાભાઈનું નામ BPL યાદીમાં નહોતું. નારણે એમને આ વાત સમજાવી અને સરકાર એમને મદદરૂપ ના થઇ શકે એ પણ સમજાવ્યું.. મફાભાઈ નિરાશ થયા. પણ નારણે એમને vssm હાથલારી માટે મદદ કરશે પણ એ લોન સ્વરૂપે, કમાઈને લોનની રકમ પરત ભરવાની એ અંગે વિગતે વાત કરી. મફાભાઈ એ તુરત હા પાડી. રૂ.૬,૦૦૦ ની લોન આપણે એમને આપી. લારી લઇ લીધા પછી એમણે શાકભાજીનો વ્યવસાય વિચાર્યો. નારણે એમને સીઝનલ ધંધા માટેનો સુઝાવ આપ્યો. શાકભાજીનો જ વ્યવસાય પણ જે તે સીઝન પ્રમાણે કરવાનો. દરેક શાકભાજી લાવીને વેચવાની એમ નહી.. પણ એક કે બે જ શાકભાજી લાવીને વેચવાની. એમણે એ પ્રમાણે શરુ કર્યું. બટેકાની સિઝનમાં ડીસાથી ૩ રુપિયે કી.ગ્રા. બટેકા લાવ્યા અને ૧૦ રૂપિયે વેચ્યા. આજ રીતે બોર, એકલી ભાજી વગેરે.. મફાભાઈને પણ આ બરાબર ફાવી ગયું છે. રૂ. ૨૦૦ થી રૂ.૨૫૦ કમાઈ લેવાય છે. લોનના હપ્તા નિયમિત ભરે છે.
દિયોદર તાલુકામાં રહેતાં ૨૧ વ્યક્તિઓને આપણે લોન આપી છે. નારણ વિચરતી જાતિના કામમાં સતત વિચરણ કરતો હોય આમાં લોનનો માસિક હપ્તો આપવા આ પરિવારો મહિનાના પહેલાં અઠવાડિયે નારણને શોધે. ક્યારેક નારણભાઈ મળી જાય ક્યારેક થોડા દિવસ રાહ જોવી પડે.. આ પરિસ્થિતિનો ઉકેલ લોનધારકો જાતે જ લાવ્યા. દિયોદર બસસ્ટેન્ડ પાસે દિનેશભાઈ રાવળ ફ્રુટની લારી લઈને ઉભા રહે. આપણે એમને પણ લોન આપી છે. દિનેશભાઈ પાસે બધા જ વ્યક્તિ લોન જમા કરાવી જાય અને નારણ એમની પાસેથી રકમ મેળવીને બેંકમાં vssmના ખાતામાં ભરી દે. આમ આ લોન લેનાર જુદીજુદી જાતિના લોકો હવે એક પરિવાર જેવા બની રહ્યા છે અને એટલે જ આવી વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવાઈ છે..
મફાભાઈના બે દીકરા નાના છે અને એ ભણે છે એમને એ બન્નેને સરસ ભણાવવા છે અને સરકાર દ્વારા vssmના પ્રયત્નથી એમને ઘર બાંધવા પ્લોટ મળ્યો છે, જેના પર ઘર બાંધવા રકમ પણ જમા કરી રહ્યા છે.
