Zebarben Raval loves to buy gold from her newly formed habit of saving money…..

So, how is business?” I inquired.

“Very good, both the boys have really worked hard.  They haven’t purchased even a single clothing for themselves. Ben, if you had not helped us when their father suffered a stroke we would have been ruined. The boys had fallen into bad company, but all that is a past now. The loan of Rs. 20,000 you gave has helped us a lot. We used it to set up this kiosk and bay back a small amount that was due on the rickshaw.”

“Do you save?”

“Of course, I don’t give money to anyone but spend on things I like. Who does not like to wear gold? Now I save and buy gold, have stopped wearing weathered clothes. Ben, I manage to save Rs. 50 every day. The accumulated savings of Rs. 18,000 helped me buy these gold earrings a while ago and recently I bought this golden pendant from another Rs. 7,000 I had managed to save. After all these laborious years, the almighty has now showered us with his blessings!” Zebarben was elated when she proudly showed us the gifts to herself.

There was a gas stove in the kiosk which attracted my attention and before I could ask Zebarben was quick to reply, “I do not waste time, any guests and visitors who come to meet me are served tea here, sometimes if I am very busy I cook here too.”

It brings us immense pleasure to hear such honest account from Deesa’s Zebarben Raval. It makes us utterly proud of her, for her accomplishing her dreams and desires all through her sheer hard work and determination.

We weren’t hoping that such small support will help in achieving such wonders, it is a delight to watch such amazing miracles unfold.

To all those who have stood by us in changing the lives of thousands of nomadic individuals, a loud ‘Jai’ (as the nomadic communities would reciprocate.)
